Chatham Pool Renovation Project

Construction has started on the Chatham Street Pool Renovation Project.

Project: Unusual movement and sinking of the pool decking was causing significant cracking and sinking of the concrete pool decking.  This project, which is led by GMB Architects and Engineers, will result in the full resurfacing of the current concrete pool decking. 

The decking will be replaced with pavers.  Pavers will provide a more decorative look, while allowing easy access to pool components for future needed repairs.  This greatly extends the life of the pool decking as concrete sections will no longer need cut when pool repairs are needed. 

The edge of the pool will be surrounded with pool coping to provide a clean pool edge.  Pool coping is installed in small sections, which will also allow easy removal for any necessary future repairs.

The kiddie pool will be replaced and upgraded with a small water feature and the main pool will be resurfaced as part of this project.

Note: At times, a portion of Dorsey Street will be closed to accommodate work equipment. This was previously noted as Chatham Street.

Work continues to progress although it may not be overly evident in the photos.  The work being done includes electrical work, and pool tiles to prepare for the paver installation in the coming weeks.  The project remains on schedule. 

  

Week 15 - April 8, 2024

Work continues to progress and we are getting closer to the start of the paver installation.  The coping and tile work is complete and electrical work continues.  Contrary to some chatter in the community, the pool work remains on schedule.

      

  

Week 17 - April 22, 2024

The underground electrical work is complete.  The paver base is installed and pavers will be delivered later this week or early next week.  The project remains on schedule for a Memorial Day opening. 

   

    

Week 18 - April 29, 2024

Paver and fence installation has started! The exterior of the pool area will be surrounded by a 6 foot fence. The toddler pool area with water mushroom will have a lower fence. 

  

   

Each paver weighs approximately 165 pounds.  They are lifted and maneuvered into place with this special equipment. The equipment is suction powered to secure the paver to the lifting handles.  



Week 20 - May 13, 2024

WE HAVE WATER!! We are getting closer with each day. On Monday May 13, the pool was plastered. Upon completion, water began to be added. An estimated 11 truck loads of water are needed to fill the pool. Over the next 10 days, the pool contractor will brush the plaster to ensure the proper curing process takes place. 


ALERT: On Monday May 13, we were notified by our engineer and contractor teams that work will not be finished by Memorial Day Weekend.  We understand this is disappointing, but we want the work to be done with quality, and not rushed.
The Chatham Pool is estimated to be open by June 8, 2024.  In the meantime, the Parker Run Pool is scheduled to open on the Friday of Memorial Day.

Paver work is wrapping up, with just a few remaining. Next week the fence will be installed along Dorsey Street and the remaining areas around the Kiddie Pool.  Rocks along the edge will be level and pool furniture will be prepared for opening.







Week 23 - June 3, 2024

WE'RE AT THE FINISH LINE!! We only have some minor work remaining as we prepare for our June 8th opening. The bathrooms are ready, pavers are sanded, pool furniture is prepared to be cleaned, fence gate will be added and final touches are taking place. There will be some minor work done after the pool opens such as trim on the pillars and some plantings, but nothing that will interfere with operations of the pool. See you Saturday!
